Northumbrian Water has been named North-East Contact Centre of the Year 2008 in the under-200 seats class at the Contact Centre Awards 2008.

The 140-staff call centre beat off the competition to receive the accolade at an awards ceremony staged in Houghton le Spring, reports the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

Up to one million enquiries are dealt with every year by the contact centre.

Northumbrian Water's contact centre manager, Claire Sharp, said the firm was delighted to have won a "prestigious award".

She commented it was "a real reflection" of the "first class team" employed at the call centre.

With regards employees of the centre, Ms Sharp added: "They are truly passionate about delivering outstanding service, always aspiring to get things right first time every time for our customers. They work extremely hard and I'm extremely proud of each and every one of them."

The award was sponsored by regional development agency One NorthEast.
